The Novice Handbook
Outdoor Training
For EUAC, our outdoor season begins right after BUCS indoors final, which is the middle of March. From April, we will have access to our outdoor facility in Peffermill.
Please respect this wonderful opportunity, because you probably can't find such a good place for such a low price anywhere else.
Training
When training outdoors, you will learn how to shoot at longer distances, how to handle different lighting conditions, and how to adjust for different weather conditions.
The training standard is the WA720 round, shooting 72 arrows at distances corresponding to your category. However, there are many more outdoor rounds you will encounter.
Novices are expected to start from shorter distances (30m) and gradually build up the distance.
Outdoor Competitions
The outdoor competitions you are expected to participate in are SSS outdoors and BUCS outdoors, but you are highly encouraged to take part in different open competitions including Scottish tour, West of Scotland championship, Silver Arrow, etc.
Safety Regulations
Shooting at Peffermill is a privilege that comes with great responsibility.
We share this field with other sports clubs. This means that the field must be left clear of ANYTHING before departure of archers.
Losing arrows, leaving equipment around like allen keys, is extremely dangerous for the players and can potentially damage machinery that goes onto the field.
We have permission to shoot there because we abide by these rules and failure to do so will result in the whole club's permission to be revoked.
Upon first shoot at Peffermill, you must be briefed by a certified member of the committee to know the protocols.
